I’ve watch something like 10-ish episodes of this drama so far (there are 35 total episodes). I’ve decided to share some of my thoughts. I’ve heard some good things about it so I wanted to see if I would enjoy it. I do like it and hope to continue watching more episodes once I have more time.
The drama is a story about Lu Fang Ning and Ling Rui. Lu Fang Ning is the general manager of her father’s company. Her father wants her to get marry and have a baby, in exchange he would support her furniture brand. She then meets Ling Rui, a doctor. She finds him to her liking and starts chasing him. She then finds out that his maternal aunt had borrowed 4 million yuan from her half-brother (who in turn borrowed from her). She used this to force Ling Rui to marry her but he still rejects her. He finally agrees to marry her when he recognized her childhood photo as she was someone he had a crush on. The two gets into a contract marriage for 1 year. She doesn’t tell him that she’s planning to sleep with him and get pregnant. When he finds out and find out that after she gets pregnant, she was still going to go through with the divorce and plan to be a single mother, he refuses. However, she eventually falls in love with him but he refuses to believe because of her lies in the past. That’s where I left off. I know the two will dissolve their contractual marriage and have a baby boy eventually.
The actress that plays Lu Fang Ning is Zhou Yu Tong. I think she definitely fits the image of a rich, domineering girl. She’s not beautiful but she’s elegantly pretty and slim. I really did not like her character at all. She’s selfish, childish, and shameless. She doesn’t consider anyone else’s feelings but her own. But at the same time, she’s fragile inside that it makes me feel sorry for her. She’s too confidence but that’s why she’s a domineering CEO. I didn’t really think she matched the ML at all because she’s just kind of pretty whereas ML is can’t-take-my-eyes-off gorgeous. But I really love their interaction in all the BTS footage.
The actor that plays Ling Rui is Simon Gong. Oh, my heart, he is gorgeous. He was the ML in The Love Equations which I attempted to watch once upon a time but wasn’t feeling the female lead. This was another Asian drama where the male lead is super gorgeous and the female lead is average looking. He plays a doctor who grew up poor. His family consist of his mother and his two maternal aunts, the older one never married and the younger one is divorced. We get flashback of him and the female lead as children. It seems they know each other but don’t recognize each other. ML only realized who she is after seeing a picture of a young girl in her bedroom. ML’s father was ill and hospitalized so he became a doctor because of that.
We have a second male lead in the form of Lu Yi Yao. He is the adopted uncle of the MC. And it seems he has feelings for her. He was engaged but broke his engagement at the last moment and left overseas. After MC got married, he came back. His ex-fiancée Qin Yu Jiang made a subtle remark to MC that Lu Yi Yao had someone else in his heart but it’s not her place to tell who. MC finds her photograph in Lu Yi Yao’s wallet and suspect that she’s the person in his heart. This cause her to feel awkward towards him so whenever he tries to get them to hang out, she would make excuses. He eventually starts dating Cai Si Yu although we know he doesn’t have feelings for her. It is very likely that he’s using her like he did with Qin Yu Jiang.
When we were first introduced to Qin Yu Jiang, I really didn’t like her all that much. Her company manufactured furniture and MC’s brand needed a manufacturer. She still had feelings for Lu Yi Yao and she tried to force his hand by only agreeing to sign the contract if he make himself truly fall in love with her. She obviously did not succeed. Our ML finally convinces her to not let her personal feelings for Lu Yi Yao ruin her relationship with MC. So she approaches MC with willingness to sign a contract but MC refuses her citing that she can no longer trust her because of her unstable emotions. Qin Yu Jiang conceded and provided her with another manufacturer that can help them. Although I didn’t like her at first, I feel the most sorry for her. She went on a blind date with Lu Yi Yao and they dated for 2 years, eventually becoming engaged, only to be dumped right before the wedding. All that time, she didn’t realized that Lu Yi Yao had no feelings for her and was only using her as a shield so that MC wouldn’t be aware of his forbidden feelings for her. This hurt my heart a lot. Qin Yu Jiang never got closure and I bet it hurt her knowing that she was used and that all the while she was dreaming of their future together, he never considered her. She deserved better than him.
Cai Si Yu is a reporter who ended up with a big scoop (she had a recording that MC and ML are in a contract marriage). When she went to MC’s company to talk to her about it, she tripped and fell on Lu Yi Yao. I think she and Lu Yi Yao will be the secondary couple? She ended up dropping her recording pen. While in the elevator, Lu Yi Yao played the pen and MC recognized her voice and knew what it would revealed so she takes the pen from Lu Yi Yao and tells him she knows who the owner is. She forces Cai Si Yu to quit her job as a reporter to work in her company and the two become friends. Cai Si Yu keeps having these cute-meet situations with Lu Yi Yao. Cai Si Yu reads a lot of romance novels so she think of herself as the MC and Lu Yi Yao as the ML and create opportunities that would turn their meeting into a romance, lol. Where I left off around episode 10 or 11, MC is avoiding Lu Yi Yao after she suspects that he likes her so he asked Cai Si Yu out on a date as he knows she likes him. At the end of the date, Cai Si Yu asked if he wants to be her boyfriend. Right when she thought he would reject her, he agreed. My heart is already breaking for Cai Si Yu who’s just an innocent bystander with a crush on her boss. I’m only wanting to continue the drama to see how their relationship will unfold.
We also get introduced to Tang Ping Ping who is a frenemy of MC. She is the daughter of one of the shareholders of MC’s family company. She also fell in love with ML and does a lot of cringy things even after MC and ML are already married. When she finds out about their contract marriage, she confronts MC but ML backed MC up as he does care for MC. ML doesn’t have any feelings for Tang Ping Ping at all.
That is my thoughts on some of the characters we’re introduced to so far. Right now I’m interested in the second couple. I want to see Lu Yi Yao fall in love with Cai Si Yu and having to chase her. I also want her to give him a taste of his own medicine too.
Clothing-wise, I found a lot of repeated outfits. It’s like the wardrobe department weren’t given enough of a budget at all. Lu Fang Ning had outfits that was repeated and when she came home from work, she would “chill” in those outfits. The first thing I do when I get back from work is change into lounge wear to be more comfortable. It’s kind of weird as she’s supposedly a rich girl. I saw Cai Si Yu wear a mock sweater 2 days in a roll. And then there is Qin Yu Jiang, who wore a red dress when we first meet her and she wears the same outfit the third time we see her too (like 2 days later).
