I picked up this novel yesterday and with only 48 chapters, this is another quick and easy read. The translator did split up some of the chapters but as it is completely translated, it’s really not a big deal for me.
Our MC is Rong Mo. She is the eldest daughter (and only child) of the prominent Rong family. At the age of 9, she was kidnapped alongside her mother. Her mother ended up dying and she became handicapped and can only use a wheelchair. At the age of 17, she went out to buy lilies for her mother as it was her mother’s death anniversary. Unfortunately, she got kidnapped again. When her kidnappers were tearing off her clothes, she was rescued by Nie Feizhan (our ML). He was actually on a mission to save another child but encountered her and saved her. As he was sending her home, they were being chased. They ended up in an accident but he protected her. He arranged for her to be picked up and then disappeared. MC kept looking for him but with no success. ML is somehow drawn towards her and although he doesn’t show his face to her, he does enter her room and watches her while she’s sleeping. (Kind of creepy, lol). MC would have nightmares and only when she dreams of him rescuing her would she calm down.
At the age of 18, MC decides to experience high school and went to her mother’s alma mater. The Rong family is very protective of her but she refused any bodyguard. ML is also worried for her so he disguised himself as a janitor. MC finally figures out that he is the person that saved her a year ago. He agreed to be her bodyguard for as long as she’s in that county. Thus began their bodyguard/client relationship for 3 months. When he left, he tells her to take care of herself.
ML is actually a special forces guard and takes on special missions so he’s actually very busy but he made time for her in those 3 months. When her father came to take her home, he was able to leave her and continue his work. ML doesn’t feel good enough for her so he leaves his dangerous job to become a successful businessman. ML had a tragic past. He was trafficked as a child so his life’s work became rescuing other children that were in his situation (kidnapped and trafficked).
Meanwhile, the Rong family are undergoing a crisis. The company’s stock fell after MC’s father Rong Ji was taken in for questioning while he was hospitalized. In that time, all of her father’s asset was frozen including the house they lived in. Thus, MC and her only bodyguard Lin Sa moved into an apartment under MC’s name.
They suspect that the conspiracy is the work of Rong Xun, MC’s cousin. Rong Xun believes that he should inherit the Rong family business because MC is handicapped and he’s the only son of the Rong family. When he returned from abroad with his wife and children, he was rejected by MC’s father because not only is Rong Xun’s father an adopted son of the Rong family but Rong Xun also exhibit similar behaviors like his father. He wouldn’t allow the company to be handed over to Rong Xun but he still accepted them into the family. With MC’s father taken in for questioning, Rong Xun decides to get his revenge. The key person who was directly responsible for the downfall of the company is an employee named Linda who disappeared shortly after and was later found out to be intimate with Rong Xun. Linda eventually turns herself in absolving MC’s father of any crimes.
MC participated in an auction where she’s selling a piece of land belonging to the Rong family. Everyone knows that the family is facing bankruptcy. However, it never came up for auction. When she inquired, she was told that the item was blocked by ML. When MC turned to look for him, she sees his figure walking away. She hesitates to follow him but ends up changing her mind and going home instead. She hasn’t seen him in 5 years. The next day, he shows up to say that he’s her bodyguard but she refused him. Eventually she allowed him to be her intern bodyguard. He takes her back to her family home and all of her servants returned. He also brings her father back. Although MC’s father isn’t completely cleared and cannot travel, he is free for now.
Although the story is about ML chasing after MC, she gives in pretty quickly. In fact, they start kissing almost right away. He promises to continue protecting her and not leave her side again. He takes her on a date and she got to experience things that she’s never experienced before as a person in a wheelchair. At the end of the date, they have a romantic dinner and he proposes to her. Obviously, she agreed.
MC finally finds out from her father all of ML’s effort in protecting her in the past. ML used to sneak in to secretly see her. One time he triggered the security alarm and that’s how ML and MC’s father met. He assured MC’s father that he’s working to be good enough for her. So after his proposal, MC talked to her father and her father told her all of this. She then tell her father that she wants to be able to stand again. She asked to keep it a secret from ML so she can surprise him with it.
At the end, MC is able to walk again and walk towards him in her wedding dress.
