Book Review, Part 1: Pampered By Mr. President! (Ch 1-170)

I came across this book in Web Novel and decided to give a try. I know that it’s also on MTLNovel.com but I’ve only read what’s been translated through Web Novel so far and then wrote this review. I like it so far so I’m probably going to read on!

MC is Mu Siyin. In her previous life, MC’s fiancé Gu Yifan cheated on her with her half-sister Mu Xingyu. Gu Yifan only wanted to have intercourse with Mu Xingyu and had no intention of breaking his engagement with MC. It was just that MC wasn’t ready to have intercourse and he had needs. (Ugh, men!) However, Mu Xingyu was not happy so she schemed against MC. She drugged MC’s drink with aphrodiasiac during the night of Gu Yifan’s birthday. MC ended up going into the room of Shi Beiyu (ML) and the two did it. However, ML brought MC back to her room after the deal. The next morning, Gu Yifan’s mother in cahoots with Mu Xingyu brought reporters to MC’s hotel room accusing her of cheating on Gu Yifan. Due to the shamelessness, MC was kicked out of the Mu family. When Mu Corporation was facing bankruptcy, ML helped save them and told MC that he was the person she slept with that night. She hated him thinking that he was a part of Mu Xingyu’s scheme. However because she was homeless, she had no choice but to go home with ML. The two didn’t have a good relationship. ML was very possessive of her. MC had alluded to him being overbearing and forceful in bed. It sounds rapey to me because MC does become pregnant with ML’s child in her previous life despite her hating him.

Even though MC is no longer the fiancée of Gu Yifan, Mu Xingyu was still not satisfied. She orchestrated a car accident for MC. MC was 7-month pregnant and lost the child. In order to survive, she had to have heart and eyes transplant. She woke up in the hospital bed to Mu Xingyu trying to kill her. Mu Xingyu told her that she should not have been alive and also that it was funny that the person MC hated was the person who donated his heart and eyes to her. The last moment before her death, she realized that ML must have loved her so much to do this for her and how awful she treated him. The day she died was also the day of his funeral.

When MC woke up next, she had been reborn to 2 years prior, on the night she was drugged and had intercourse with ML. She kept touching him and apologizing to him. The same thing happened like in her previous life. ML brought her back to her own room and Gu Yifan’s mother brought reporters to her room. This time MC knew what was going on so she ended up exposing Gu Yifan and Mu Xingyu, even stripping Mu Xingyu of her top showing the love bites and hickeys from her lovemaking session with Gu Yifan. Gu Yifan quickly covered her with his jacket and took her out, an action not lost on the reporters.

When MC returned home, she is threatened by the Mu family (her paternal grandmother, stepmother, and Mu Xingyu). Her grandmother kicked her out of the Mu family to which MC smartly respond that that was fine and for them to immediately pack their belongings and leave. When her grandmother blew up, MC reminded them that the house is under her mother’s name and since her mother is no longer around, it belongs to her. MC also mention the succession certificate which MC’s grandmother had been searching for, for over a decade. The succession certificate (which was signed by both MC’s father and grandmother) said that in the event of her mother’s death, the company shares that she owns get passed to her surviving children. Obviously, MC’s father and grandmother is trying to prevent that from happening.

MC’s grandmother then tell her to go to the Lu family to ask her help as the Mu Corporation is facing bankruptcy. The Lu family is her mother’s family and since the death of MC’s mother and sister, they had cut ties with the Mu family. This scenario is something that also happened in her previous life. When she had gone to the Lu family for help, her maternal grandfather was so upset that he became bedridden and eventually died. So MC doesn’t want to bother them. However, MC’s grandmother threatened her that if she does not help, she’ll move MC’s mother and sister out of the Mu family’s graveyard. MC tells the grandmother that if she manage to save Mu Corporation, half of her grandmother’s and stepmother’s shares must be transferred to her. Having no intent to do so, the grandmother agreed thinking that they will trick her later. MC also know in her last life that it was actually ML who helped resolve Mu Corporation’s financial troubles. However, this time, she doesn’t want him to think that she’s using him for money so she decides to find an investor on her own.

She called up her maternal cousin, Lu Jingchen to help her find investors. He invites her out to Beauties After Dark, a swanky club (I really like the name). Apparently, all the young CEOs were meeting there and it would be a good opportunity for MC to find an investor. Once she entered the room and was heading towards her cousin, other people asked if she was the young lady of the Mu family who got dumped by Gu Yifan. Internally, all the men thought that Gu Yifan was an idiot for dumping such a beauty as MC for someone plain like Mu Xingyu. However, MC corrected them and say that she was the one who dumped Gu Yifan. All the men in the room roared with laughers and cast lewd gazes her way causing another person in the room to be upset. Yes, ML was also in the room. When MC sees him, she approached him and boldly announced that she wants to be his girlfriend. When he asked why, she whispers to him that she wants to take responsibility for him. This surprised ML as he wasn’t 100% sure if MC knew that the person she slept with that night was him. He then quickly took her away.

MC still tried to find other investors without relying on ML but in the end, probably due to ML’s handiwork, MC had no choice but to find ML to help. He only agree to help if she’d sleep with him again. MC lament that she didn’t realized what a pervert ML is in her past life. However, before they can do the deed, MC gets her period (typical CN trope). MC’s father tried to trick her with the share transfer agreement but MC was smart enough to see the clauses and demanded a new agreement. MC’s father procrastinated on this as he was upset. However, news of the Gu company’s stock crashing gave him some urgency so he quickly drafted a new agreement. MC signed it and told them that the investor isn’t the Lu family but someone else she found. The Mu family is upset but had no choice as the investor was willing to put in a lot of money that they badly needed.

Gu Yiling is Gu Yifan’s sister and supposed best friend of MC. However, after her past life, she realized that Gu Yiling was never her friend. She monopolized MC’s time to allow Gu Yifan and Mu Xingyu to have their affair. Gu Yiling was supposed to be out of town traveling. However, she saw MC and ML embracing and took pictures. The next day, the Gu family came to the Mu family and accused MC of cheating. They showed proof of MC embracing a man but they don’t know who it is. MC said that it’s not consider cheating as she and Gu Yifan are no longer together and she and the man have only started dating yesterday. Gu Yiling threaten that she’s going to post the picture online for everyone to see. MC tells her to go ahead as she also want to announce to everyone that she’s dating him. She then tell them that since they want to post her pictures, she will return the favor and post videos and pictures too. She showed them the video of Gu Yifan and Mu Xingyu having intercourse. Gu Yifan barged into the room and demand to know if it was “that guy” that sent her the video. Gu Yifan is upset that she may have cheated on him when they were still engaged (disregarding that he cheated her first). He told everyone to leave and tried to force himself on her. However, before he can proceed, news of the Gu family’s stock crashing came. So Gu Yifan left immediately.

ML’s assistant asked ML if he’s really going to help Mu Corporation as his mother is doing all she can to destroy it. There’s some backstory here but we don’t know yet at this point. ML said he’ll still help them for MC but will do so under his own company, Tengyue Technology.

The Mu family finds out who their investor is. MC’s father is shocked as Tengyue Technology is a well-known company that’s been rising quickly becoming very influential. I guess it’s akin to a jewelry company like Kay Jewelers getting an investment from Samsung or LG. However, Tengyue Technology has some conditions. When MC’s father and grandmother balked at the conditions, ML’s assistant tells them that if it weren’t for MC and the conditions, they would not have invested. One of the conditions is for Mu Xingyu to obey MC’s orders unconditionally in the company, LOL. Mu Xingyu is livid but they remind her that she works in the fashion design department and MC will be working in the jewelry design department so MC shouldn’t be able to give too many orders. They also tell Mu Xingyu that if she’s unhappy, for her to find an investor to save Mu Corporation.

ML brought MC back to his villa in which the butler remarked that it’s an ill-fated relationship between the two. MC lived in this villa in her previous life so she’s familiar with it. Then, she regarded it as a cage but now she doesn’t feel that way. She agreed to spend the night with him but she’s on her period so the two can’t do anything. ML tricked her into blow-drying his hair. In exchange, he won’t touch her. He also mention internally that she has done this before. At this point, we know that ML and MC had a past together (especially by the butler’s comments) but MC doesn’t remember him. Anyways, despite promising her, she still got felt up that night. I guess they did everything but the final deed which caused her to be super upset the next morning because he lied to her.

Although MC said she will only be honest with ML, she still hides a lot of things relating to her past life. Which causes ML to be upset because he knows that she’s not 100% honest or she’s hiding something. I understand because it’s hard to explain that you have been reborn and already lived some of the scenarios. For example, when MC meets ML’s friends, one of them is a OB/GYN doctor (Huo Sikai). Huo Sikai tells MC that when she and ML have a baby, for her to come see him. This brought back memories of ML’s baby that she carried for 7 months. The baby was a boy and stillborn. It saddened her thinking about it. ML noticed her mood and felt upset that MC doesn’t want to have his child. Later, she tells him that she’s still too young (she’s 20 and he’s 28) and they will talk about children and pregnancy later when she’s older which appeased him.

ML’s mother heard that ML has a girlfriend and she tried to inquire but ML refused to say from which family MC is from. She also stopped by his villa the next day. ML held MC to his chest so his mother could not see MC but she’s happy that ML finally has a girlfriend. MC feels a little hurt that ML doesn’t want to introduce her to his mother. She recalled in her past life that in the two years she was with ML, she never met his family. When MC asked the butler, he warned her to run if she ever see ML’s mother as he calls her the “She-Devil”. ML make excuses on why he won’t introduce her to his mother yet. Internally, the butler comment that if ML’s mother knew that the girl is MC, she would “gobble” her up.

Her best friend Ji Yang is a policewoman. In MC’s past life, Ji Yang died while working undercover for a drug cartel. So when MC finds out that Ji Yang is heading out for the mission, she got the idea from ML to fake being sick. However, she knew that Ji Yang would see right through her so she got sick for real, to the point that she ended up getting hospitalized. This delayed Ji Yang so she got reassign to do a prostitution ring bust instead. The next day, she tells MC about this horrible man she arrested, Lu something Chen. MC is worried that it’s her cousin Lu Jingchen, LOL. They go to the police station and sure enough it’s Lu Jingchen. He’s upset because Ji Yang kicked him twice and threw him in the back of a patrol car. The two starts fighting and bickering upon seeing each other. Then Ji Yang’s superior comes out and tells Ji Yang to apologize to Lu Jingcheng as they arrested the wrong person. Lu Jingchen was truly at the place for business. Honestly, I wasn’t really interested in Ji Yang but I’m really intrigued by the second couple love story now! Can’t wait to see what happens with all this sparks flying around.

After her hospital stay, ML brought MC back to his villa. She asked for some snow pear and rock sugar stew. She tells him that her mother would make it whenever she was sick. ML tensed up at the mention of MC’s mother. MC tells him that she got into a car accident when she was 8 and does not remember much before that time. So now we know that MC has selective amnesia and it’s quite possible that MC and ML knew each other in the past but now MC does not remember him.

Gu Yiling went to look for MC to ask her to help Gu Corporation. She refused. In her anger, Gu Yiling incite her brother by telling him that MC told her upfront that she cheated on him. Upset, Gu Yifan went to her workplace and tried to force her into his car with the intention to “see for himself if she’s still a virgin”. However, ML showed up and rescued MC while kicking Gu Yifan. The kick broke his ribs. Upset that her son is hospitalized, Gu Yifan’s mother confronted her at her workplace and tried to create a scene to embarrass her. However, they left embarrassed instead. They decided to release the picture of MC embracing ML to prove that MC cheated on Gu Yifan first. Before MC could do anything, ML’s side already released evidence of Gu Yifan and Mu Xingyu’s cheating scandal.

Unfortunately, ML’s mother sees the picture and recognize the side profile of ML. She’s upset to find that his girlfriend is MC whom she calls a vixen from the Mu family. She went over to ML’s villa and confronted the two. MC is confused but from ML’s mother accusations, there seems to be a connection between them in the past that she cannot remember. ML’s mother slapped MC and asks her who gave her the guts to fall in love with her son? Mother and son starts arguing and MC tells them to stop and she’ll leave. She runs off but ML got to her before she could run out of the gates. He takes her to a hotel and she demanded for him to tell her the truth. He just tells her that the car accident that her sister died in, his father was the other party but he was drunk. He also said that his mother is dramatic. I think there’s more to the story but ML won’t say. MC doesn’t understand why ML’s mother would blame them if the Mu family was actually the victims here as it was ML’s father who was drunk. Things don’t add up but she gets distracted by ML and stopped asking questions. That night, MC had a nightmare. It back at the car accident site and her sister is on the ground covered in blood asking her to “save him”. She’s awaken by ML and she tell him that she dreamed about her sister and the car accident. Afterward, she fell asleep but ML is wide awake as he also remembered every detail of that car accident. It seems that he was also there?

The next morning, ML’s grandfather called him to come back home. When he refused, ML’s grandfather threaten him with kidnapping MC. Thus, ML had no choice but to return to the family villa. The first thing his grandfather said is why must ML fool around with “that woman’s younger sister”? I smell an affair between MC’s elder sister and ML’s father. MC’s stepmother had called MC’s elder sister a vixen and homewrecker.

ML’s grandfather and mother decided to use his 80th birthday celebration to find a wife for ML. ML’s mother tells him that he must attend without MC. So he goes and doesn’t bring MC along. MC’s cousin Lu Jingchen heard about it and the rumors that it was an event to find a wife for ML so he forces her to attend with him. There, MC sees ML’s grandfather and mother forcing him to dance with Yue Yiru. She also studied at the same university abroad with ML and has a thing for him. Heartbroken, MC and her cousin leaves but not before ML sees her. He runs after her instead of dancing with Yue Yiru. MC’s cousin tells him to leave her alone as he does not want MC to be someone’s mistress. ML said he would register his marriage with her then. However, MC refused as she doesn’t want to marry him if his family hates her. She leaves with her cousin.

Her agreement to attend Grandfather Shi’s birthday party with her cousin is because he promised to tell her everything he knows about MC’s sister. Thus, afterward, she finds out that there were rumors that MC’s sister was messing around with a married man and he was someone high up in the government. MC asked if it was true that her mother killed herself while jumping off a building due to her sister’s death. MC’s cousin said he doesn’t know for sure as they were not in the city at the time. MC tells him that she still trusts ML despite everything. How can she not when she knows that in her past life, he gave up his own for her.

At the end of Ch 170, ML calls Leng Jiuchen, his friend who’s a general for a favor. He wants two marriage certificates.

So far, we know that MC was present at the car accident that killed her sister. Although she survived, she lost all memories prior to when she was 8. There seems to be some connection between MC’s elder sister and ML’s father which is why his family is livid that ML wants to be with MC. I’m curious to find out what’s going on also because ML and MC definitely knew each other in the past. That scene where MC blow-dried ML’s hair, he remarked to himself that she had once stood behind him blow-drying his hair. We also know that ML was also present during the car accident. MC was 8 which means that ML was 16.

MC had said that after the death of her mother and sister, her father started treating her differently. He used to dote on her but afterward, he lets the family bully her. I’m curious to know what happened. MC started referring to her father as her stepfather. She finally realized that things did not add up as her half-sister is 3 years older so that meant that he cheated on her mother. I wonder if MC’s father really isn’t her father and perhaps he found out after MC’s mother’s death? That would explain why he treats her different. MC wants to save Mu Corporation because her mother put her heart and soul into the company.

It looks like Yue Yiru will be a villain. She’s going to start trouble for MC. She has a thing for ML despite him not caring about her. She’s already possessive of ML as though he’s already hers. SMH. I also foresee a lot of obstacles for MC from ML’s grandfather and mother.
